What are dental implants?

Dental implants are ceramic posts that your Advance Dental provider inserts into the empty sockets where your teeth used to be. 

At Advance Dental, the team places dental implants with the Yomi® Robotic Implant System by Neocis. The Yomi system uses digital imaging to guide implant placement, reducing the risk of infection and other potential issues.

Who is a candidate for dental implants?

You might be a candidate for dental implants if you’re missing some or all of your permanent teeth. However, you need to have enough healthy bone to support the implants. If you have low bone volume, the team performs a bone graft first.

What does getting dental implants involve?

At Advance Dental, getting dental implants takes a single visit. The team uses immediate load implants, meaning you can bite and chew immediately after placement.

Your provider reviews your dental records, completes an oral exam, and takes 3D digital X-rays. If you have adequate bone to support the dental implants, you qualify for implant surgery. 

After taking digital impressions of your mouth with an intraoral scanner and uploading them to a computer program, your provider uses the program to map the placement of each implant.

Once the treatment plan is finalized, your provider uses a computer-guided console to insert the implants into your empty tooth sockets. Then, they cover your implants with ceramic crowns or implant-anchored dentures.

Advance Dental has a CEREC® milling machine and a 3D printer on-site, so they create your implant restorations during the same appointment.

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants typically last 10 years or longer*, but it’s crucial you practice good oral hygiene. The team at Advance Dental recommends brushing your teeth twice daily and visiting the nearest office every six months for an oral exam and preventive teeth cleaning.

Protect your ceramic crowns or implant-anchored dentures with a mouthguard if you grind your teeth or play contact sports. In addition, avoid bad habits like biting your nails, chewing on ice, or opening packaging with your teeth.
